I've returned from California and all of my aunts things are sitting out in the UHaul (with the car hooked to the back). We'll be taking it up to my dad's to unload it later this afternoon.
The trip back was an adventure and then some. I got on the road around 5pm PDT on Thursday. I made it all way to St. George, Utah before getting a room to stay in (it was well after midnight).
I got going around 8am CDT Friday morning. Everything was going smooth and as I was getting near Salt Lake City, I stopped to get gas (it was about 1pm CDT).
After filling up, I started up the truck and there was a huge clunking noise followed by a popping through the intake manifold. I quickly moved from the pump to the parking lot a nearby.
I quickly called the UHaul emergency number and they sent a repair truck out. After about 46 minutes, the mechanic showed up & determined that one of the fuel injectors had unseated and that it would have to be towed to the Uhaul garage in Salt Lake City.
After about 45 minutes, the tow truck showed up and it took another 45
minutes to hook it up and get going. Once we arrived at the garage,
they worked on it for quite a while, and finally got it repaired around
6pm CDT.
So with 5 hours lost, I got back on the road. I had originally wanted to make it to Cheyenne, Wyoming at the end of Friday (but with more time to sleep), so I pushed my way through until I made it to Cheyenne. It was late, so I didn't get much sleep before leaving early Saturday morning.
Saturday was a looooong day. As I was leaving Cheyenne, I had approximately 1,100 of the 2,200 miles left to travel. I did my best to keep things going with the least amount of stops as possible. And as I entered Michigan it was well after midnight. I encountered some construction, of course, but at 3:00am I pulled in the driveway. It took a while to settle down enough to get to sleep and I was able to get in 2 hours before my son woke me up because he was so excited that I was finally home.
